California Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) and California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) – Active Transportation Program (ATP)

Grants to California nonprofit organizations and government agencies to promote outdoor recreation through the development of trails and trail-related projects. Funding is intended for the development and maintenance of recreational trails and trail-related facilities for both non-motorized and motorized recreational trail uses.
The Recreational Trails Program (RTP) provides funds annually for recreational trails and trail-related projects. The non-motorized RTP funds recreation trail projects are for pedestrians, bicyclists, and equestrians that may also serve as non-motorized transportation corridors.Trails must be separated from a road and not within a road right of way. For example, a trail adjacent to a sidewalk should be on the side farthest from the road unless there is no other option.
