National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF)

Grants to California government agencies, park districts, and NGOs for recreational projects in eligible locations. Applicants must submit a pre-proposal prior to submitting a full application. Funding is intended for projects that compensate the public for the loss of enjoyment and use of public beaches, parks, and other public or natural resources as a result of the Refugio Beach oil spill. Grants will be awarded for projects that enhance fishing, boating, and other water-based, shoreline, or near-shore recreation in the counties of Santa Barbara (downcoast of El Capitan State Beach), Ventura, and Los Angeles.
Eligible activities will take place downcoast of El Capitan State Beach in Santa Barbara County to Long Beach in Los Angeles County based on the distribution of Refugio Beach oil spill recreational impacts to the extent practicable. Shovel-ready projects with either a low probability for cost overruns or a mechanism to address cost overruns are preferred.
